Creating a Tune with Powtoon!

Hey everyone!

It is with much excitement, anticipation, and nervousness, that I present to you…

This was my first Powtoon creation, and it was really fun! I highly recommend giving it a try. Powtoon has a lot of text, image, and sound options. It also allows you to add voiceovers, which is how I added my banjo playing to the ‘picking a tune’ slide. Once your project is complete, you have the option of saving it as a slideshow or a movie and it can be uploaded to Youtube quite easily. Overall, my experience with Powtoon was absolutely positive!

Here is a video of my completed song:

Here are the lyrics, in case you can’t hear me over my very loud banjo!

You used to play

and sing to me.

Now let me play

and sing to you.

By God’s grace

you’re safe at last.

Grandpa, I miss you so

but I have faith

that you are truly healed.

The day will come at last

when I will be there too.

Until that time

just know that I love you.

So now you see

His mercies are so real.

I have come to know

true joy at last.

And through these notes

your joy lives on.

Grandpa, I miss you so

but I have faith

that you are truly healed.

The day will come at last

when I will be with you.

Until that time

just know that I love you.

Just know that I love you.

  1. Danica,
I am truly blown away! I can’t believe how much you have grown throughout this semester! The fact that you wrote and recorded your own song just amazes me! I love how you were inspired by your grandfather and your faith, and that was really apparent in the song you wrote and performed! I literally had goosebumps reading this post and watching your videos! You should be so proud and I know your grandfather would be! Also, I love how you took a chance and explored PowToon! I was new to it this semester and I found it to be so much fun! You did a great job with it as well! I am glad you enjoyed it so much and I hope you continue to use it, as I know I will! This post goes above and beyond in all areas, as it shows that you are so invested in your learning project and you have been able to experiment with different ways of documenting it! You should be so proud of yourself because I am one proud mentor! I also really hope you continue playing after EDTC 300 comes to an end!

  2. Hi Lauren,

First of all, thank you so much for your encouragement and your compliments. I know I have a long way to go with my music, but I am absolutely loving the banjo and I think I may even be improving, at least a little, in my singing! I am invested in my learning project because because I see so much value in it. I want to continue learning the banjo, experimenting with new technologies, and writing music after this class comes to a close. Again, thank you so much!
